World Partnership Walk

Walking in Toronto to Alleviate Global Poverty

Sure, the weather forecast may be calling for rain on Sunday, but that won't stop thousands of Torontonians to assemble at Metro Hall at 11am for the World Partnership Walk. Joining tens of thousands of walkers in nine cities across Canada and several other places around the world, the participants in tomorrow's World Partnership Walk will take part in this annual event, rain or shine, in order to raise funds and awareness about the Aga Khan Foundation's work to alleviate global poverty.

Sunday's walk is themed "Making Education Count" and will feature exhibits showcasing the power of community-based education in rurals areas of Asia and Africa. This year's walk in Toronto will be officially kicked off by The Honorable Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario, and hopes to assemble several thousand participants who have come either to raise funds, to walk to raise awareness, or just to have a good time.

The World Partnership Walk is Canada's largest annual event dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds to fight global poverty, and is organized completely by volunteers and funded by donors, so that every dollar raised by walkers goes directly to development projects. It is now in its twelfth year in Canada.

In Toronto, the pre- and post-walk festivities will include performances by Vlad's Dance Company, The Ismaili Youth Choir, Bollywood Grooves Canada, OU Fusion, Ijo Vudu African Dance Company, Shall We Dance Studio, Greenfire Celtic Dance Theatre, and Chi Ping Dance Group, in addition to several other performers from across the city.

The World Partnership Walk kicks off at 11am at Metro Hall on Sunday, May 27, 2007. More information can be obtained at the Walk website, where you can also sponsor walkers and donate to the Aga Khan Foundation's efforts to increase access to good education around the world.
