glowTO: A Simple Message from Wroxeter Ave

After back to back (to back) West end features, it was time to head East. I didn't have any leads on East end light displays, so I just went blindly searching from the Viaduct and beyond.

Heading south on Pape from the Danforth I came to Wroxeter and there, low and behold, was this home-made gem that truly captured the meaning of the season...

Three strings of tube lights on a clever frame shine from 59 Wroxeter Ave. It's truly magic in it's simplicity.

And the message -- a holiday wish -- is simple like its design: "Peace Only!"

Timing is key on this evening as one of the neighbours was out for a walk just as I arrived.

She asks if I'm from the neighbourhood and I explain what I'm actually up to. She chuckles and offers me a brief history of these lights.

The owner of this display put it up a couple years ago -- on the roof. He built and executed his master plan, all on the lower roof of his home and when he was done, let it shine all season.

(Even from the ground, it's quite visible from Pape.)

The next year, it proved a little too hefty (as a huge finished frame) to haul back up onto the roof safely. Thankfully, he was not discouraged and, instead, placed it in front of his home... where it rests today.

If you want to see this one, take the subway to Pape Station, get a hot chocolate from the Tim's at there, and then walk south.

More glowTO all this week.
