Held in conjunction with Art Toronto, the upArt Contemporary Art Fair has taken over the second floor of the Gladstone Hotel for the weekend. Unlike the main event, upArt focuses on emerging and mid-career artists and has less formal vibe all around. This is a good chance to talk to the artists about their creations, and if you're into collecting, a chance to purchase work at more reasonable rates.
This year's organizing theme "seeks to address interactions between nature and culture," but the reality is that while some evidence of this exists, the best way to think of the event is as big group show where the main draw is the individual artists rather than the thematic consistency of the curation.
The fair runs until 5pm today (so there's still time to check it out).
