Courvoisier Collective

Shot of Art: The Courvoisier Collective at Gallery 1313

One of the more interesting late summer art shows just opened at Gallery 1313. The product of a competitive process, the works on display are the winning selections from over 150 submissions to the Courvoisier Collective, an arts initiative designed to showcase local talent and highlight the transformative qualities of art. It total, 15 Toronto artists are represented, three of whom will have their work displayed on billboards and posters throughout the city.

Competitions based on public votes (the selection of the gallery artists was based on 25 cent of public votes and 75 per cent on the recommendations of an expert panel) don't always produce the most accomplished work, but I this show proves an exception to the rule.
