Dementia 5 Hosts Canada Day Slam

Celebrate Canada Day with Some Vocal Fireworks

Let's face it: fireworks aren't for everyone. For those of us that don't plan on celebrating Canada Day tonight crowded on the lake-front staring at pyrotechnics, Dementia 5 is hosting a very special spoken word slam where you have the chance to take home $150 and the bar is licensed until 4am. Oh Canada.

The word wrangling kicks off around 10:30pm at the Dominion on Queen, but get there a bit early if you want to sign up to compete. If you're not interested in competing but still want to hit the mic, there will be an open mic session before the slam and a guaranteed after-party once it all wraps up. Which, seeing as how the bar is licensed until 4am, might be quite late. The perfect way to celebrate our nation's birthday.

Arieh Singer took a few photos at the last Toronto Poetry Slam, and I've included a small slideshow of those photos after the jump.

Dementia 5's Canada Day Slam goes down at the Dominion on Queen starting just after 10:30pm tonight, July 1, 2008.
