Pretty, affordable Japanese for Ryerson students and Yonge St. shoppers

Posted by Gadjo Sevilla / March 4, 2010

ryersonKitschy decor, a highly-trafficked location and affordable prices make Tatami Sushi at Yonge and Gould an attractive option for cheap Japanese eats for Ryerson students and downtown shoppers alike.

Smallish portions of food that score quite high on presentation but ultimately fall a little short on taste leave us wanting more and hoping for a shift in focus.

Mancakes! Cupcakes for Guys

Posted by Daniel Kuseta / March 3, 2010

Mancakes
I admit when I heard a Liberty Village cupcakery was opening, I had my reservations. Did Toronto really need another cupcake shop? Sure, cupcakes are pretty but in my experience many suffer from acute Avatar-ism, foregoing substance for style. But what's this? Mancakes? Cupcakes created specifically for guys? And so it was with some trepidation that I trotted off to the newest cupcake outpost.

A New Look for blogTO

Posted by Tim / March 3, 2010

New blogTO DesignUnless you're reading this through a feed reader you'll notice that blogTO looks a bit different today. (If it looks totally messed up to you, please clear your cache or do a hard refresh). Overnight we introduced a new design for the site, as well as a lot of new functionality. And while we're still working away at resolving many bugs and other fixes there's a lot of new stuff we're excited for you to check out.

Many of the changes we've made are geared toward improving the usability of the site. We've been creating content for more than 5 years now and we wanted a design that made this content more accessible.

We also wanted to give the site a cleaner look. We've always been a fan of lots of white space, easy to read fonts and a layout that makes the photos pop, but we think this latest design really helps us get closer to these ideals.

Not Salt Tasting Room, But Not Bad

Posted by Bryce Daigle / March 2, 2010

Salt Tasting Room TorontoIt may not live up to the pedigree of our Olympic city's Salt Tasting Room but this Queen East spot still impresses with its choose-your-own-assortment of charcuterie plates, delicious sandwiches, and an extensive wine list. The long, narrow space features exposed brick-walls, a low, communal table, and a chalkboard wall listing a variety of cured meats on offer.

Old World Cappuccino on the Danforth

Posted by Elizabeth / March 1, 2010

cappuccino torontoA neighbourhood mainstay since 2001, this decidedly untrendy coffee shop feels like it came straight from Sicily. Owner Seb doesn't cater to the hip crowds looking for over-priced, trendy caffeine perks. Instead, he hand selects beans and focuses on providing locals with the absolute best cappuccino in the city. The coffee is stellar, and customers greet each other like old friends here.

Affordable Elegance on West Queen West

Posted by Briony / February 27, 2010

Cors Queen TorontoThe yaya & friends space near Trinity Bellwoods has long been deadpooled and in its place the colourful and friendly CORS has arrived. Theory, Diane von Furstenberg and Karen Millen are just some of the lines in store, all at typically-better prices than what one might typically find at other boutiques or department stores in the city.
