Book Scene: Canadians in Fall

Posted by Katherine / September 18, 2006

This Wednesday (20th) the Harbourfront Centre's International Readings presents: An Evening of Canadian Fiction. Christine Sismondo (author of Mondo Cocktail) hosts the event, which features Trevor Cole with Fearsome Particles, Keith Maillard with Looking Good, Kevin Patterson's Consumption, Adam Lewis Schroeder's first Empress of Asia. 7:30p in the Brigantine Room (235 Queen's Quay W).

Also on the 20th, the book launch for Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (who's getting a lot of high praise lately). An added bonus - Michael Ondaatje will be there to do the intro. At the U of T International Student Centre (33 St. George). 7pm. Free nosh! And free admission.

Thursday bring Michael Redhill (author of Consolation, which our reader Patrick recently won - hey Patrick, you could get your copy signed) to the Gladstone Hotel Ballroom for his book launch. He'll be chatting with Russell Brown (U of T prof) and Robert J. Wiersma will have some kind of presentation about music in his work (which consists of writing, reviewing and selling books - his book Before I Wake has been getting great reviews, so I guess it works). 730-10p. 1214 Queen W.

Sundaythe 24th, you can spend a whole bookish day in Queen's Park (11a-6p) for the 17th annual The Word On The Street festival. I know you're really just going to see the Long Pen in action, but you could also check out talks on how to start your own magazine, see a whole bunch of local authors or learn how to network (should there be any not-yet-published novels sitting on your hard drive).
